Dr. Paul Sheils’ journey into dentistry began early. His father was a dentist, and by the age of fourteen he was already being introduced to the profession that would eventually become his life’s work. Later, his own family’s experience navigating severe sleep apnea and complex orthodontic treatment opened his eyes to the deeper connections between oral health, development, breathing, sleep, and overall wellness.

That experience did not change his belief in comprehensive family dentistry. It expanded it. Today, Otsego remains a family dental practice at its core, while also bringing a broader understanding of how oral health fits into the larger picture of long-term well-being.

For some patients, that simply means receiving excellent preventive and restorative care. For others, it may involve exploring concerns related to sleep, TMJ symptoms, oral development, or airway health. Either way, our philosophy begins with understanding first.
